The Caves of Ra Paulette

Ra Paulette digs cathedral-like, 'eighth wonder of the world' art caves into the sandstone cliffs of Northern New Mexico. Each creation takes him years to complete, and each is a masterwork. But patrons who have commissioned caves have cut off nearly all of his projects due to artistic differences. Fed up, Ra has chosen to forego commissions altogether and create a massive, 10-year project, his Magnum Opus.
In 2010 Ra was approached by Jeffrey Karoff about making a film documenting Ra’s work. The result is the award winning short film CaveDigger.

Men and dolls by Benita Marcussen

quote [Copenhagen-based photojournalist Benita Marcussen contacted several sex doll enthusiasts through an online forum and convinced them to let her photograph them with their prized possessions]. The complete photo gallery.
"The men featured care about their dolls and treat them with respect like dear friends," Marcussen wrote in a statement sent to The Huffington Post. "They care for them like material things with a little more presence and personality".
"They agree to have their picture taken because they feel that there is more to the story than the regular ‘man owns a sex doll’ - even though most still choose to be anonymous," Marcussen said. "The majority of the doll owners stay completely out of anything that has to do with media as they feel society often misunderstand and it does affect them, naturally".

quote [Curiosity motivates me, and it serves as the underlying driving force for my artwork. Photography is the most natural way for me to engage that curiosity, and it also provides me with a pretext to explore the environment and people around me. In the process of this exploration I photograph what I find interesting and beautiful, telling its story as well as my own].
